Hero: Mac Hunter
Heroine: Samantha Trudeau
If you like kick-ass heroines, this book is for you. Sam Trudeau is an empath working for a branch of the FBI called the National Neural Network or N3. The book begins with her on the run after witnessing her fellow agent/friend's death, a kill ordered by Sam's creepy boss. Sam goes to hide out in her estranged family's vacation home, where she meets Mac.
The story is action-packed. I thought the violence near the end was a bit gratuitous, but maybe I'm just a bit sensitive. Quiet reporter Mac is a nice complement to alpha-heroine Sam. They make a good couple.
True Shot is the last book in Ms. Lamb's True trilogy. I haven't read True Colors or True Vision, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment one bit.
Here's my favorite exchange from the book (starting on page 193):
"So you dumped my sister for your job. Did she kick your ass?"
"Nope."
"Maybe I should do it for her."
He grinned at the feral thrill that coursed through him at the idea of Sam wrestling him to the ground and having her way with him.
"You're supposed to quake in fear, dumbass, not look forward to it," she said with a lazy drawl.
He tried his best to lose the grin but couldn't. "Sorry. You're just so incredibly hot when you get tough."
I recommend True Shot. I didn't expect to like it since I'm on a historical romance kick right now, but it pulled me in from the start.
I don't like rating books by a star or number system, so here's my rating system:
Bad=Quit reading the book
Fair=It was okay; I finished it
Good=I liked it
Great=I loved it; definitely would enjoy re-reading it someday
Rating for True Shot: Good
