Hero: Jamie Sinclair
Heroine: Emmaline Marlow
Let me begin by saying Teresa Medeiros has never disappointed me. I read Some Like It Wicked back in 2008, Yours Until Dawn in 2010 (excellent!), and A Kiss to Remember and One Night of Scandal this year. I highly recommend Ms. Medeiros' books. If you're wondering where to start, I suggest Yours Until Dawn or The Devil Wears Plaid.
The Devil Wears Plaid begins with Jamie kidnapping Emma at the altar. He holds her ransom for a necklace (and an admission of guilt for the murder of his parents) he believes her bridegroom (a rich old man called the Hepburn) has. The Hepburn is Jamie's biological grandfather, but the old man refuses to accept a bastard grandson, especially one mothered by a Sinclair, a family with which a centuries-old feud exists. That's just the backstory.
Jamie and Emma lust after each other soon after he kidnaps her, and love develops as the story progresses. I won't go into details, because this book is getting my highest rating (and I don't want to spoil anything), but I will say I enjoyed the lack of misunderstandings and the lack of intense introspection that some books possess. I can't think of anything bad to point out about the book; I was thoroughly satisfied. The secondary characters were well-developed, but not overwhelming. (I would like to see Ian Hepburn get a girl and story of his own.) The plot was meaty. The sex scenes were tastefully written. The hero and heroine were both very likable. All in all, a very satisfying read.
I don't like rating books by a star or number system, so here's my rating system:
Bad=Quit reading the book
Fair=It was okay; I finished it
Good=I liked it
Great=I loved it; definitely would enjoy re-reading it someday
Rating for The Devil Wears Plaid: Great
